Amortisation, depreciation and impairment losses (€803 million) rose by €34 million compared with 2013. The increase was due mainly to higher amortisation and depreciation (+€38 million), primarily as a result of the entry into service of new infrastructure and the effects (€11 million) of the AEEGSI changing the useful life of certain metering facilities in the natural gas distribution segment from 20 years to 15 years for tariff purposes44. The increase was partially offset by lower impairment losses on obsolete gas pipelines in the transportation segment (−€4 million).
