NATURAL GAS MOVED THROUGH THE STORAGE SYSTEM (BILLONS OF CUBIC METERS)
In 2014, 15.70 billion cubic metres of natural gas was moved through the storage system, a reduction of 2.72 billion cubic metres (14.8%) on 2013 (18.42 billion cubic metres). This reduction was attributable to lower withdrawals from storage (−1.93 billion cubic metres; −20.3%) as a result of milder first-quarter temperatures than during the previous year.
The total storage capacity as at 31 December 2014, including strategic storage, was 15.9 billion cubic metres (unchanged since 31 December 2013), of which 11.4 billion cubic metres related to available storage capacity, which was allocated in full for the 2014-2015 thermal year, and 4.5 billion cubic metres related to strategic storage (unchanged compared with the 2013-2014 thermal year)34.
Thanks to significant investments made to develop new deposits and upgrade existing ones, thereby increasing its volume and delivery point capacity, on 26 October 2014 Stogit exceeded the previous maximum quantity of gas in stock at its storage systems, reaching 11,005 million standard cubic metres.
34 On 26 January 2015, the Ministry of Economic Development set the strategic storage volume at 4.62 billion cubic metres for the 2015-2016 contractual storage year (1 April 2015 – 31 March 2016). This was in line with the volume set for the 2014-2015 contractual year. The quota pertaining to Stogit remained unchanged, at 4.5 billion cubic metres.
